Worst summer power shortage since 2004!
More than a dozen Chinese provinces have begun to ration power supplies because soaring coal costs and declining supply have cut into electricity generation at a time when demand is set to soar.
China has forecast a power shortfall of 10 gigawatts for the summer, about 1.4 percent of installed capacity, but provinces are forecasting more than triple this amount.
The earthquake in Sichuan and the Beijing Olympics are also given as explanations for the shortages.
According to recent reports, Weihai factories are suffering power shortages 4 days a week and are working night shifts to attempt to maintain production targets.
